Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated the state’s strong commitment to Nigeria’s vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2025 held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos—widely regarded as Nigeria’s economic heartbeat and one of Africa’s most dynamic hubs—remains central to driving innovation, technology, and partnerships needed to realize the national aspiration.
The governor noted that the GITEX Expo aligns with his administration’s ambition to position Lagos as the “pulse of Africa’s digital future.” The event brought together global technology giants such as IBM, Meta, MTN, AWS, and Cisco, alongside emerging Nigerian startups, showcasing the transformative power of collaboration in the digital space.
Sanwo-Olu commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for championing inclusive digital policies and advancing AI infrastructure in Nigeria. Dr. Tijani highlighted new government-backed initiatives designed to strengthen research and innovation, including a program set to launch on October 1 that will fund 75 research projects in the digital economy. The initiative, he said, will deepen participation among local researchers, entrepreneurs, and Nigerians in the diaspora.
“Lagos represents a vibrant innovation ecosystem, powered by progressive public policies, dynamic private enterprises, and a resilient startup culture,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He added that the state is home to 23 of Nigeria’s fastest-growing companies, underscoring its vital role in shaping the country’s economic trajectory.
With platforms like GITEX Nigeria serving as catalysts for knowledge exchange and partnerships, Lagos continues to strengthen its position as the nucleus of Africa’s digital transformation.
Bright Sobowale.
