Despite a standing directive from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) prohibiting the physical operation of ticketing and sales offices, several international airlines have continued to run such outlets across major Nigerian cities.
Investigations reveal that airlines are still issuing tickets and providing in-person customer services in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano — a clear violation of the NCAA’s order mandating that all sales be conducted through approved online platforms or accredited agents.
The NCAA’s regulation was introduced to streamline operations, promote digital compliance, and enhance passenger protection through traceable electronic transactions. However, enforcement appears weak as the affected airlines maintain physical offices under various operational guises.
Industry watchers believe the airlines’ defiance underscores the regulatory lapses within Nigeria’s aviation system and raises questions about the NCAA’s ability to enforce its policies. Some airline representatives, however, argue that their offices only provide “customer support” and not direct ticket sales.
As the controversy deepens, the NCAA is expected to intensify monitoring and possibly sanction non-compliant carriers in the coming days. Aviation analysts say the development could set the stage for another regulatory showdown between Nigeria’s civil aviation authorities and foreign operators.
