The Coalition of Pan-Yoruba Groups, under the umbrella of the Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements (AYDM), has applauded the Lagos State Government for its recent decision to issue electricity distribution licences to two new companies.
In a statement released by the group, the AYDM described the move as a bold and progressive step toward achieving energy independence and improving power supply across the state. The coalition noted that the development would foster competition, enhance service delivery, and stimulate industrial growth within Lagos and beyond.
The group commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for demonstrating visionary leadership by decentralizing power distribution, thereby reducing dependence on the national grid and empowering local operators to meet community-specific energy needs.
According to the AYDM, the initiative aligns with the broader aspirations of regional development and self-reliance within the South-West, reflecting the economic resilience and innovation that the Yoruba people have long championed.
The coalition urged other state governments to emulate Lagos by exploring similar models that encourage private participation in the power sector, particularly in renewable and localized energy solutions.
AYDM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies that promote economic development, social welfare, and improved living conditions for the people of Lagos and the entire Yoruba region.
