Defence officials from the United Kingdom and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts during a strategic visit to the headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Nijatravel reports that the UK Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Brig.-Gen. Tom Harper, and his German counterpart, Col. Boris Bovecamp, pledged expanded cooperation with Nigerian forces battling insurgency in the North-East. The meeting focused on strengthening tactical coordination and operational efficiency.
According to a statement from Operation HADIN KAI, the visit highlights sustained international backing for Nigeria’s security operations. Both officials described the partnership as essential to restoring peace and rebuilding affected communities.

Brig.-Gen. Harper praised the professionalism of Nigerian troops and acknowledged recent successes recorded against insurgent groups. He noted that the long-standing defence relationship between the UK and Nigeria remains anchored on shared security interests.
The British envoy also pointed to the continued role of the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) in enhancing capacity building. He stressed that training and advisory support remain key pillars in improving Nigeria’s operational effectiveness.
Col. Bovecamp affirmed Germany’s readiness to deepen military collaboration with Nigeria. He emphasised the importance of technical assistance and intelligence cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges.
In his response, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the support received from both nations. He stated that previous partnerships have significantly improved combat readiness and tactical performance.
Abubakar called for sustained collaboration in logistics, intelligence sharing, and equipment support to consolidate gains achieved in the region. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism.
Security analysts observe that the renewed UK Germany military support Nigeria initiative could further stabilise the North-East. They note that consistent global engagement remains critical to achieving long-term security goals.
