The Ogun State Government has formally transferred ownership of the 21-year-old Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) to the Federal Government of Nigeria, marking a major shift in the institution’s governance and status.
The handover, which was completed in a formal ceremony, transfers the administration, funding responsibilities, and regulatory oversight of the university from the state to the federal level. Ogun State officials say the move is intended to unlock greater resources, expand academic programmes, and enhance the institution’s national standing.
For more than two decades since its establishment, TASUED has operated as a state-owned university focused on teacher education and related fields. Under federal control, stakeholders expect increased federal funding, broader accreditation opportunities, and improved infrastructural development.
State leaders highlighted that the transfer reflects a long-held aspiration to position the university for higher growth and competitiveness within the national higher education system. They also expressed confidence that federal management will attract more students and faculty, raise academic standards, and support research and innovation.
