The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that commercial train services on the Warri–Itakpe route will officially resume on Tuesday, October 29, after several months of suspension.
The resumption follows extensive maintenance and safety checks carried out along the corridor, which was temporarily closed earlier in the year due to operational and technical challenges. The NRC said the move underscores its commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for passengers and cargo across the country.
In a statement, the corporation revealed that all necessary safety protocols have been put in place to guarantee smooth operations, while passengers can now begin booking tickets through NRC’s online and station platforms. “We are pleased to inform the public that train services on the Warri–Itakpe route will resume operations on October 29. We have worked tirelessly to address all operational concerns and enhance passenger comfort,” the statement read.
The Warri–Itakpe rail line, one of the most strategic in Nigeria’s modern railway network, connects key industrial and commercial hubs across Delta, Edo, and Kogi States. The route plays a vital role in supporting both passenger mobility and freight movement, particularly for industries in the South-South and North-Central regions.
The NRC added that security has been strengthened along the corridor, with collaboration between railway officials and security agencies to ensure safe travel for all passengers.
