The Nigeria Police Council has confirmed Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP), formalising his leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

The confirmation was ratified during a council meeting chaired by Kashim Shettima, following the recommendation of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The decision ends Disu’s tenure in an acting capacity and solidifies his role as the nation’s top police officer.

Disu assumed the position of Acting IGP after the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun. With the council’s approval, he now takes full command at a critical time for Nigeria’s security landscape.

In his remarks, the newly confirmed IGP expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and members of the Police Council for their confidence in his leadership. He pledged to prioritise professionalism, operational efficiency and morale within the force, while strengthening strategies to combat insecurity across the country.

The council underscored the importance of stable leadership within the police force, particularly amid ongoing security challenges nationwide. Members called on officers and stakeholders to support the new IGP in advancing reforms and improving public trust in law enforcement institutions.

Security analysts note that Tunji Disu’s confirmation as IGP provides continuity within the Nigeria Police Force’s reform agenda and reinforces the federal government’s commitment to institutional stability and enhanced internal security coordination.
