The Lagos police command has arrested a taxi driver accused of rape, defilement, assault, indecent assault, and armed robbery against female passengers. Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
Officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspect on Friday at about 9:40 a.m. The suspect’s image had earlier gone viral after several victims reported his alleged crimes on social media.
A red Toyota Corolla with registration JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used in connection with the offences, was recovered and secured as evidence. The suspect is currently in police custody.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects believed to be involved. Additional victims are urged to report to the CID in Panti, with assurances that their identities will be protected.
The police command remains committed to securing justice for survivors and ensuring public safety.
