The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent online portal falsely claiming to offer 2026 ad-hoc staff recruitment opportunities.
In an official public notice, INEC distanced itself from a circulating link described as the “INEC Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment 2026” portal. According to the Commission, the website is fake, unauthorized, and designed to mislead unsuspecting job seekers.
The warning about the INEC fake 2026 ad-hoc recruitment website comes amid increasing online scams targeting Nigerians seeking temporary electoral employment. INEC emphasized that it has not commenced any recruitment process for 2026 through the circulating link and urged the public to disregard it entirely.
The Commission specifically warned Nigerians not to click on the suspicious link or submit personal details such as names, phone numbers, bank information, or identification documents. Providing such sensitive data, INEC noted, could expose individuals to identity theft, financial fraud, and other cybercrimes.

INEC further clarified that all official recruitment exercises are communicated exclusively through its verified platforms, including its official website and recognized social media channels. It stressed that it does not conduct recruitment through third-party links, shortened URLs, or unofficial portals.
The emergence of the INEC fake 2026 ad-hoc recruitment website highlights the growing trend of phishing schemes exploiting public interest in government job opportunities. Ad-hoc staff positions with INEC are often in high demand during election cycles, making job seekers particularly vulnerable to fraudulent schemes.
Cybersecurity experts have consistently advised Nigerians to verify the authenticity of online job advertisements before engaging with them. Red flags such as unofficial domain names, requests for sensitive personal information, and promises of guaranteed placement should be treated with caution.
INEC reassured the public that whenever it officially begins recruitment for ad-hoc staff, the process will be transparently announced through credible media outlets and its verified communication channels. Nigerians are encouraged to rely only on information published directly by the Commission.
As digital fraud becomes more sophisticated, public awareness remains a critical defense. INEC’s advisory serves as a reminder for citizens to exercise vigilance when interacting with online recruitment platforms, especially those linked to government institutions.
Job seekers are advised to regularly check INEC’s official website and verified announcements for accurate updates regarding future recruitment opportunities.
