A tragic incident has occurred at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park after a Hawaii resident died following entry into a restricted and hazardous section of the park.

Nijatravel reports that the 33-year-old man was discovered near the eastern edge of the Kīlauea Caldera, one of the most geologically active and dangerous areas within the national park. Authorities revealed that the location where he was found had been closed to visitors due to significant safety risks, including unstable terrain and volcanic hazards.

According to officials from the National Park Service, a search and rescue operation was launched after reports emerged that someone had entered the off-limits zone. Rescue teams worked through the night navigating rugged volcanic landscapes and steep cliffs in an effort to locate the missing individual.

The man was eventually located and airlifted from the hazardous area by rescue personnel. He was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical attention but was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of his family.

Park officials emphasized that the region around the Kīlauea caldera presents serious dangers to visitors. These include unstable crater edges, hidden fissures, and the possible presence of toxic volcanic gases. Such conditions make restricted zones extremely risky for anyone attempting to bypass safety barriers or warning signs.

Although Kīlauea Volcano is among the most active volcanoes in the world, officials clarified that the volcano was not erupting at the time of the incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led the individual to enter the restricted area.

Authorities have once again urged tourists and residents visiting the park to strictly follow safety regulations and remain within designated viewing areas. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable and hazardous nature of volcanic environments.
