
Offa, Kwara State – September 19, 2025 – The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, under the leadership of its distinguished Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNCE, FIDPM, FNEE, has successfully hosted the maiden edition of the Rector’s Cup – an indoor and outdoor sports competition exclusively for the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.

The landmark event, described as a “first-of-its-kind” in the history of the Polytechnic, commenced on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with an opening football match at the Mini Campus by 4:00 p.m. The indoor games segment officially kicked off the following day, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Indoor Sports Hall, Permanent Site, by 10:00 a.m.

The tournament featured a wide array of competitive sports including football, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, draughts, ludo, and gym activities.
The grand finale and closing ceremony took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Stadium Complex, Mini Campus, featuring the highly anticipated football final and certificate presentation.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Rector Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin expressed appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment. He reiterated his administration’s determination to further promote sports development within the Polytechnic as a means of fostering unity, wellness, and camaraderie among staff.
He also thanked the sports directorate for their organizational efforts and assured that his office would continue to support initiatives that enhance both staff and student engagement in sporting activities.

Notably, the event also had in attendance the Newly Appointed Rector of LENS Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Bola Aliyu, alongside principal officers, staff unions, and a large turnout of staff supporters.
Sports Directorate Applauds Rector’s Vision.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nijatravels News, the Head of the Sports Directorate and Chief Coach of the Polytechnic, Mr. Odukoya Olufemi, commended the Rector for his unwavering support towards sports development within the institution. He noted that the Rector’s commitment had brought about remarkable improvements, and the hosting of the Rector’s Cup stands as a testament to that vision.

At the conclusion of the games, trophies and certificates were presented to winners, while all participants received certificates of participation in recognition of their contributions to the historic event.

The 1st Rector’s Cup has been widely hailed as a remarkable achievement and a milestone in the institution’s history, setting the stage for future editions that promise to further strengthen staff unity, morale, and physical fitness within the Polytechnic community.
