The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a major enforcement success in Kwara State, seizing contraband goods valued at about ₦1.2 billion within the space of one month.
The seizures were made during a series of coordinated anti-smuggling operations across border communities and major routes in the state. Items intercepted include foreign parboiled rice, used vehicles, premium motor spirit, and other prohibited goods suspected to have been illegally imported into the country.
Customs officials said the operations were driven by credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, noting that the activities of smugglers had intensified in the area due to its strategic location as a transit corridor.
The Comptroller in charge of the command stated that the service remains committed to protecting the nation’s economy and enforcing government trade policies. He warned smugglers to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the command would continue to clamp down on all forms of economic sabotage.
He also commended officers for their dedication and professionalism, while calling on members of the public to support Customs with timely information to aid ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and revenue leakages.
The seized items are expected to be forfeited to the federal government upon the conclusion of necessary legal procedures.
