The Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Soliu, has died at the age of 75, marking the end of an era in the religious leadership of the emirate and Kwara State at large.
Sheikh Soliu passed away early on Monday in Abuja after more than four decades on the Minbar, during which he served as a leading Islamic scholar, preacher and spiritual guide to thousands of faithful.
His remains were later flown to Ilorin, where they were received at the Ilorin International Airport ahead of Islamic burial rites, in line with Islamic traditions.
Until his death, Sheikh Soliu was widely respected for his role as Chairman of the Council of Ulamas in Kwara State, a position through which he provided guidance on religious, moral and social matters. He was known for his calm disposition, deep scholarship and commitment to unity within the Muslim community.
News of his passing has thrown Ilorin and other parts of the state into mourning, with religious leaders, traditional rulers and residents paying tribute to his decades of service and leadership.
The late Chief Imam is remembered as a bridge-builder who promoted peace, religious tolerance and discipline, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape Islamic scholarship and leadership in the Ilorin Emirate.
Funeral prayers and other burial activities are expected to be held in Ilorin, as the community gathers to honour his life and contributions.
