Graceland International School Wins 2025 National Mathematics Tournament.

Students of Graceland International School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have emerged winners of the 2025 National Mathematics Tournament.

Representatives of the school, Agbo Adoga and Elvis Ekwelem, outclassed their counterparts from Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja—Tamunodumotein Sekibo and Jana Esosa—with a score of 27-6 to clinch the top prize.

For their victory, Adoga and Ekwelem received a total cash prize of N3 million, with each student taking home N1 million, while the remaining sum was shared between their school and mathematics teachers. Loyola Jesuit College, the first runner-up, won N2 million, while Austica Memorial College, Anambra State, secured third place with a prize of N1 million.

Eight schools from seven states—Lagos, Edo, Ogun, Abuja, Rivers, Kaduna, and Anambra—competed in the final stage of the tournament.

Speaking to journalists, the President of Maths4Life, Mr. Omoniyi Osuntuyi, highlighted that the 2025 edition coincided with the foundation’s 10th anniversary. He disclosed that over N100 million has been invested in the competition over the past decade to support students’ education and train over 10,000 artisans.

“It has been helping students for the last decade. Over N100 million has been given in the last 10 years. We also tutor students who struggle with mathematics, making the subject more accessible and helping them develop problem-solving skills,” Osuntuyi said.

He noted that this year’s total prize pool of N6 million was the highest in the tournament’s history and expressed hope for an even larger prize fund in future editions.

“This is the first time we are giving a cash sum of N6 million. We have already surpassed what we have been awarding, and next year, we expect even bigger things,” he added.

One of the winners, Agbo Adoga, attributed his success to dedication, nightly study sessions, and support from his parents and teachers.

“I study maths almost every night. I also get full support from my parents and teacher,” he said.

The National Mathematics Tournament continues to encourage academic excellence, rewarding students for their mathematical skills and dedication.
