Dino Melaye, a well-known figure in Nigerian politics, represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly. He is a long-standing member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has also served in the House of Representatives. In 2015, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but returned to PDP before the 2019 elections after a prolonged political rift with Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
During his time in the Senate, Melaye served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and briefly led the Senate Committee on Aviation.
