There was palpable tension in Ogwashi-Uku, located in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, following the reported abduction of four children by suspected child traffickers on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the Umuokwe area of the town. Two of the victims, Ebube and Miracle, are said to be siblings, while the other two, Chimanda and Excel, belong to another family.
According to community members, three women who recently moved into the neighborhood are suspected to be behind the kidnapping. Eyewitnesses revealed that one of the women lured the children by promising to buy them biscuits from a nearby shop.
Concerns arose when the children were no longer seen around the compound. Upon investigation, neighbors discovered that the suspects’ room was completely empty, and both the women and the children were nowhere to be found.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that the abduction happened just three days after the women rented the apartment.
“The children were abducted three days after the women moved in. The issue now is that there is no trace – no names, no phone numbers, no written agreement,” Edafe said. “The landlady has been arrested because her actions are suspicious. She rented out the apartment without any form of documentation.”
Authorities have launched a manhunt to track down the suspects and rescue the abducted children.
