Spanish giants Atlético Madrid Femenino have confirmed the departure of Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade, drawing the curtain on her remarkable four-and-a-half-year spell at the club.
Ajibade, who joined the Rojiblancas in January 2021 from Norway, leaves after making 139 appearances and scoring 40 goals.
Her time at the club was decorated with two major trophies, the 2021 Spanish Super Cup and the 2023 Copa de la Reina, while establishing herself as one of the most pivotal figures in the squad.
In a club statement posted on their official website and social media pages on Sunday, Atlético celebrated Ajibade’s contribution to the team, describing her as a player with “quality, speed, assists, and a lot of goals in her boots.”
“Rash, you’re a red and white legend,” the club wrote in a heartfelt message on X, formerly Twitter.
The Nigerian international was honoured along with three other departing players — Marta Cardona, Ainhoa Moraza, and Merle Barth — following Atlético’s emphatic 5–0 win over Levante Las Planas on the final day of the season at the Alcalá de Henares Sports Centre.
The victory secured Atlético’s place in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, providing a fitting send-off for the quartet.
Addressing the fans, Ajibade expressed her gratitude and reflected on the emotional weight of her departure.
“It’s a mixture of emotions,” she admitted.
“My people are the best in the world. Thanks to my family, my teammates, for everything, my coaching team, and everyone working behind the scenes who make this club what it is. Thank you for everything.”
Ajibade’s departure marks the end of a memorable chapter in her career, during which she not only matured into a fan favourite in Madrid but also remained a key figure for the Nigerian national team.
The club, in its farewell tribute, also noted her impact beyond the pitch, praising her professionalism and commitment to the Atlético badge.
