The corps highlighted that their main priority is to protect voters, electoral materials, and officials, ensuring a credible electoral process.

The smooth progression of the elections is further supported by civil society observers, who noted the peaceful atmosphere in most polling stations. While voter turnout has been uneven in some areas, election officials remain optimistic that citizens will continue to participate actively throughout the day.

Millions of registered voters are eligible to cast ballots for chairmen and councillors across the six FCT councils. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and other resources to streamline the accreditation and voting process, reducing delays and improving the efficiency of polling units.

NSCDC’s assurance of a secure election underscores broader efforts to maintain peace and uphold democratic practice in Nigeria’s capital. Officials stressed that vigilance will continue until the conclusion of the voting, with security personnel monitoring all polling stations to prevent disruptions or intimidation.

The FCT Area Council elections serve as an important test of electoral logistics, citizen participation, and the effectiveness of security coordination in Nigeria’s capital. With NSCDC and other agencies working collaboratively, the voting process is expected to remain transparent, orderly, and safe for all residents.
