2026 UTME: JAMB Warns False Information May Cost Candidates Admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to ensure that all information submitted during registration is accurate, warning that false declarations could result in loss of admission.

The board stressed that providing misleading or incorrect personal details, academic status, or other required data may lead to cancellation of admission offers, even after candidates have successfully passed the examination.

JAMB explained that the warning forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen the credibility and integrity of the admission process into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The board noted that transparency and accuracy are critical to maintaining fairness within the system.

According to the examination body, candidates must carefully review their registration details before final submission to avoid errors that could jeopardize their academic future. JAMB also urged parents and guardians to guide candidates during the registration process to minimize mistakes.

The board reiterated that the 2026 UTME registration process includes strict verification procedures, including the mandatory linkage of candidates’ profiles with their National Identification Number (NIN). Any discrepancy discovered during screening or admission processing could result in disqualification.

JAMB further emphasized that the UTME is strictly for eligible candidates seeking fresh admission into tertiary institutions. It warned that deliberate falsification of records undermines the credibility of the system and may attract additional sanctions beyond withdrawal of admission.

Education stakeholders have described the move as a necessary step toward preventing impersonation, multiple registrations, and admission irregularities that have affected previous admission cycles.

As the 2026 UTME registration progresses, candidates are advised to ensure full compliance with all guidelines to avoid complications that could cost them admission opportunities.
