Nigeria’s Power Grid Collapses Again as Generation Drops to 39MW.

Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered another system collapse, plunging electricity generation to as low as 39 megawatts before supply was gradually restored nationwide.

The incident triggered widespread blackouts across the country after power generation and transmission systems tripped, cutting electricity supply to distribution companies. At the peak of the disruption, only one generating unit remained on the grid, highlighting the severity of the failure.

Power was restored hours later following emergency interventions by grid operators, bringing the system back to stability.

Reacting to the repeated breakdowns, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) expressed serious concern, warning that frequent grid collapses pose a major threat to economic activities, especially for businesses and manufacturers already grappling with high operating costs.

The chamber noted that persistent power failures erode investor confidence, disrupt production, and force businesses to rely heavily on alternative power sources, further increasing expenses. LCCI called for urgent structural reforms and improved management of the transmission network to prevent future collapses.

Nigeria’s power grid has remained fragile, with multiple system failures recorded in recent months, raising fresh questions about the reliability of the country’s electricity infrastructure.
