Pandemonium erupted in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, after an ex-convict reportedly stabbed a police officer in the forehead during a violent confrontation.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when the officer and his team attempted to arrest the suspect, who had been causing a public disturbance in the busy commercial area. The ex-convict, said to be notorious in the neighbourhood, allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the officer with a sharp object.
The situation caused chaos as traders and passersby fled for safety, leaving shops and vehicles abandoned. The injured officer was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while backup operatives from the Ogun State Police Command were deployed to the scene to restore order.
Sources said the suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody, though tensions remained high as residents condemned the growing trend of violent attacks on law enforcement officers.
The Ogun State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
