OGUN MAKES AVIATION HISTORY AS GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BEGINS OPERATIONS.

Commercial flight operations have officially commenced at the newly built Gateway International Airport in Abeokuta, Ogun State a development hailed as a game-changer for aviation and economic growth in the Southwest.

The airport earned its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), clearing the way for scheduled services. ValueJet is set to begin twice-weekly passenger flights to Abuja from October 7, marking the start of full operations.

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun described the NCAA approval as “a validation of his administration’s vision to make Ogun State a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity.”

State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, said the certification “will revolutionise the transportation system in the state,” adding that the facility is expected to ease travel for residents and boost business opportunities across the region.

The airport is equipped with modern features including a long runway, Instrument Landing System, advanced runway lighting, fire-fighting and rescue facilities, and a cargo warehouse. According to Managing Director Captain Dapo Olumide, “everything about electronics in this airport is state-of-the-art … If you have the right technology, it saves money in the long run.”

With its strategic location and cutting-edge facilities, the Gateway International Airport is projected to ease pressure on Lagos airports, attract investments, and cement Ogun State’s position as a regional aviation hub.
