Ilorin – Terror swept through Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State after suspected bandits launched a late-night attack that left at least 12 people dead and several others abducted.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the town on motorcycles, firing indiscriminately and targeting local vigilantes who had tried to repel them. Among those killed was the village head, sparking widespread grief and fear among residents.
The attackers reportedly kidnapped an unspecified number of villagers, forcing families to flee into surrounding bushes for safety. Many survivors are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Command said additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to restore calm and track down the perpetrators. Authorities pledged to intensify operations against bandit groups that have recently extended their activities into North-Central Nigeria.
The latest killings highlight the worsening insecurity in rural communities, where bandits continue to unleash deadly raids, displace families, and cripple local economies. Residents are appealing to both federal and state governments for urgent intervention.
