The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the launch of Operation Go Cashless, a new payment system that will phase out the use of cash across its revenue points.
The initiative, developed in partnership with Paystack, will officially take off on September 29, 2025, starting with the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Under the new policy, all payments at airport access gates, car parks, and FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges will go fully digital. Travelers and airport users will now be required to use secure contactless payment options, which FAAN says will make services faster, more transparent, and globally competitive.
FAAN explained that the shift is part of efforts to modernize airport operations and align with international best practices. By reducing reliance on cash, the agency aims to boost efficiency, improve revenue assurance, and enhance customer experience.
To support travelers during the transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at access gates and within terminals to guide users, provide demonstrations, and answer questions. In addition, passengers can obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at access gates in Lagos and Abuja.
FAAN confirmed that the policy will be extended to other airports nationwide in phases, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
