The Federal Government has confirmed the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for flight operations today.
Earlier, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had announced on April 18 that the airport’s runway would be temporarily closed for emergency repairs due to a significant rupture in the asphalt surface. The repairs, initially set to begin on April 22, were expected to be completed by May 6, 2025.
During this period, all flights scheduled to arrive at Enugu Airport were rerouted to nearby airports.
In a statement released yesterday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, confirmed that the repairs on the runway had been completed, and engineers had cleared the runway for safe landings and takeoffs.
FAAN expressed gratitude to all airport users and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The authority reassured the public that the temporary closure was necessary to ensure safety.
